The map shows the extent of the Awa Matakanakana catchment; from Govan Wilson Road north of Matakana, down to Brick Bay Drive in Sandspit.
Awa Matakanakana are two of the longest rivers flowing to the Auckland Eastern seaboard in north Auckland. Both rivers are about 14 kms long with about 4.5 kms of this being tidal.
The rivers flow into the Sandspit estuary and, from there, into Kawau Bay and the Hauraki Gulf marine park.
The stars show where our water quality sampling sites are situated. There are currently 11 sites. We aim to take samples at each site every three months. The results are sent for analysis and reported to Wai Care.
